6 minutes walk from Nishinojiri Station on the Sangi Railway Sangi Line.
With Mount Fujiwara in the background, you will be greeted by a magnificent gate.
Okudo Nakamuraya is a japanese traditional house, over 200 years old.
You can enjoy rice cooked in a traditional stove and comforting dishes like those made by a grandmother in an atmospheric Japanese house.

All the rice served at Okudo Nakamuraya is cooked in a traditional Japanese stove every morning.
n order to allow people to experience the richness of traditional lifestyle, they also offer a “traditional stove cooking experience” (※) before opening hours.
The cooked rice is served to the customers of the day. Even though it is just an experience, the thought of being involved in such an important task makes me feel a little nervous.
※Traditional cooking experience is limited to one group per day. Reservations must be made by phone or email at least five days in advance.

Chop firewood, put it in the stove, light a match, and blow on it with a blowtorch. To cook the rice, you need to keep the fire going strong. Adults and children alike become engrossed in the task of keeping the fire going.

Steam rises and the delicious aroma of cooking rice fills the kitchen. Opening the lid reveals shiny rice. It looks clearly different from rice cooked with the push of a button. It’s an experience that is different from everyday life and leaves a lasting impression.
Fire and stoves were commonplace in the olden days. We live in a convenient age, but learning about the difficulties and ingenuity involved is a valuable experience and a luxury. At Okudo Nakamuraya, you can enjoy “food” and “life” at your own pace using all five senses.
